Stour Descent 2002

Sunday 1st December

A Pair of paddlers from SCC paddled this year (Colin and Andrew). There intention was to put in a good time, and a very healthy time of 2 hr s 40 was achieved in normal plastic kayaks. Within the sprit of the event at one point they come across a pair K2 paddlers in distress, and helped them get sorted, which lost them about 5 minutes. The water levels were good but still challenging in parts.

Well Done Colin and Andrew, Good effort.

White Water Scouts.

A number of coaches from Southbourne Canoe Club (some of whom are also Scout Leaders) took a group of four scouts ranging from 11 to 14 yrs on a weekend paddle on the loop section of the river dart.

The water level was above normal about the highest we could permit them to paddle (and luckily it had not rained the previous day so it wouldn't go any higher). All did very well and we took bets to see who would swim first - and it wasn't one of the scouts, I won't name and shame but the leader (SCC member) who swam on a eddy line below triple drop (she never bought the customary beers either).

We all had a great weekend paddling on both the Saturday & Sunday; only the one scout had a swim on the spin dryer in high water on the Saturday (after the adult referred to above).
